Fast– You can quickly throw this recipe together. Combine the ingredients with your hands, shape them into balls, and broil for less than 10 minutes!
Hearty– This recipe is so filling which means your kids won’t need a snack before bed! I love to think of dinners to make that are high in protein and keep our bellies full.
Stores Well– There are many ways you could prepare these for freezer meals or defrost for a quick dinner. You could form the meat balls raw and store them or cook the meatballs and freeze them that way.

Tips For Making Swedish Meatballs
- Defrost your meat beforehand if it was frozen prior to making these.
- Use your hands for mixing the meatball ingredients, you’re going to have to roll them into balls anyways.
- Use high quality ingredients if you can, this makes them taste so much better. For example, grass fed butter, organic meat, and homemade breadcrumbs.
- Keep an eye on the meatballs while they’re cooking. Ovens vary on their broil settings so it is best to cook them slowly and narrow down the exact temperature you prefer.
How To Make Meatballs Hold Together
- Bread Crumbs
- Egg
- Ground Meat
The Ratio of these three ingredients is important. Two tablespoons of bread crumbs, one egg, and two pounds of ground meat. These amounts will ensure that your meatballs will hold together! You can also add other spices to the meatballs but you don’t want to overthrow the consistency for this reason.
Broiling meatballs in the oven also helps with holding the meatballs together. This keeps the juices from over-softening the mixture and causing them to fall apart which can happen when they are baked or cooked in a pan.

What Is In Swedish Meatballs?
Meatballs:
Ground Beef– When using ground beef I normally make these with a low-fat ground beef. I also have used other meats such as deer, antelope, and elk.
Bread Crumbs– Italian or panko style breadcrumbs taste good but homemade sourdough breadcrumbs are delicious as well.
Eggs–
Salt– Redmond real salt or Kosher https://redmond.life/
Green Pepper– Minced very finely.
Onion– Chopped and minced well.

Sauce:
Tomato Soup– I love to use Amy’s tomato soup if I don’t have homemade tomato soup. Use a n0n-creamy soup. You want this soup to be mainly tomatoes.
Butter
Brown Sugar– Light or dark brown sugar.
Mustard– Yellow mustard but you could change up the type of mustard in the future for a little different flavor.
Distilled White Vinegar
Worcestershire Sauce
